Monday Miscellany

Welcome to Monday Miscellany. I know that most bloggers do their link-love posts on Fridays…this doesn’t work for me. I am offline Thursday-Sunday. So I have decided to start my random inter-webs posts on Mondays. I will try to post every Monday!

♦I just discovered a fantastic pasty blog, Pasty Pal.

♦The pumpkin bread pudding looks especially good!

If you see this corgi, contact The daily corgi:

♦Facebook changed its layout (AGAIN) and people have not been happy about it. I  like what my friend Leia had to say about it:
“Scrolly updates and pop-ups and blue corners and good grief sensory overload! Didn't anyone tell Facebook that multitasking doesn't work?”

♦
The Oatmeal puts it very succinctly.

♦Sarah Wilson makes a point about how much  sugar is in most breakfast foods. (Don't be put off by the wierd title of her post...)

♦A second season of Sean The Sheep has been added to Netflix! Its such a cute show!

It is made by the same Folks that made Wallace and Gromit.

♦Speaking of Netflix, they have caused some confusion and irritation by splitting apart.

♦
Once again The Oatmeal explains it all.

Need some Halloween ideas?

♦Need a pumpkin fix? Check out my pumpkin recipe board on Pinterest.

♦For your pumpkin.... ha ha! Ok, here is a cute idea.

♦For you cat..., or hampster,  dog?

♦For your office costume party...
♦Easy costume idea, Waldo,  jelly beans,  The Price is Right, rainbow (maybe modify to be a double rainbow?)

♦A tough woman and a large horse save a child from a grizzly bear!

Cici (left) and Buddy (right)

♦Saving the best for last...we will be adding a new memeber to our family! We pick Buddy up tommorow.

How To Have Better Hair: Tips from an everyday girl.

Man, I had some volume in the back that day!

To pick out a new cut, start with research!

Start by making a file of hair do, cuts you like. Even if you only vaguely like it, make note of it. Sometimes its easier to figure out you want by eliminating what you don’t like. Its ok if you start with too many, you can always narrow things down later.

This cut is very textured...but its hard to see.

Make note of their hair texture, thickness, and color. This is very important! A cut will look very different with different hair textures.

Hair color makes a huge difference in the definition of the texture. For example, I love short choppy cuts with lots of texture. The problems is… my hair is so dark that you cannot see the texture. It looks like a solid dark mass. Lighter colors show much more texture.

I'm a unicorn....ha!

How to pick a stylist.

I look for someone who has hair similar to mine. I have fine (texture) medium (thickness) and the color is a brown just a few shades away from black. I keep an eye out for someone with hair like that. They will have lots of experience with your hair type, very helpful!

Keep in mind that stylist will likely dye their hair or try out new edgy cuts. So don’t let a crazy cut or wild color scare you away!

The try-out

Get your current hair styled by the stylist, first. If you like come back later for a cut.

Getting the cut.

Don’t wash your hair before going to the salon, they will shampoo your hair anyway.Style your hair as you usually would. This will give the stylist an idea of your taste and skill level.

You brought you clipping right? Great! This is just a starting point, now let them know in detail what you do or don’t like. How much time to you want to spend styling your hair? Do you use a lot of products, or nothing?

During the cut PAY ATTENTION! If you don’t like something speak up!

While they style your hair PAY ATTENTION!

Ask questions!

Ask them to explain what they are doing while blow-drying.

Ask them to explain how to use the products.

Keep these ideas in mind to help you have a more successful salon experience.

After the cut

Practice styling at home. Practice practice practice!

Don’t get discouraged, it takes a while to get the hang of it. I still have days where I have “Iron marks” on my hair from the flat iron.

Hope this helps!

You Mess With The Cat, You Get The Hitler...

Frankie, has a shadowy past. [To put it mildly!] We met about 7 years ago at the local animal shelter.

I was looking for a furry buddy. I had gone in looking for a male cat, probably a large black one. After being either brainwashed or hypnotized I left with a small black female named Mandy.

I didn’t know anything about Mandy’s past. [The shelter told me nothing about her! But that is another story] She only weighed 6 pounds, so I had thought she was very young.

WRONG! She was 4 years old when I adopted her.

Sneaky Lazer-eyed cat

Rasputin and I have since learned a lot about her. Some things are cute, some are weird, and well…some are a little disconcerting.

Frankie likes to carry her foam ball in her mouth while marching around the house howling. She treats it like a hunting trophy.

She is quite possibly going senile. She seems to “get lost” in the home. I hear her howling in the other room…and when I call out to her…she runs to find me. ????

Being held is simply unacceptable. I have scars to prove this. Trust me when I say that you DON’T want to see them.

The unnerving thing about Frankie is that….well…I’m not sure you will believe me. Frankie is very racist, and very possibly in the mob.

Rasputin and I like to watch shows on Discovery, and History channel. Every time we watch a program about Hitler, the kkk or skinheads she watches. By “watches” I mean that she literally sits down and watches the whole program.

[At this point I have to note that we don’t constantly watch these types of programs. This has occurred over several years. ]
When we have made negative remarks about Hitler, Frankie squawks at us. If we keep it up, she storms out of the room.

We are now convinced that Frankie was Eva Braun in a past life.

Which brings us to last night. For the last two days I slept in the other room. [I have been having sleeping problems.]

Frankie normally curls up next to me. She didn’t follow me to the other room.

Last night I shut the light off and slipped into bed. I feel a cold wet spot on my back. What the hell? I touch the bed under my back and feel a long…squishy…log.

Frantic...dash...for...the...light…reveals… cat vomit.

She vomited on the bed, (on just my side) and then covered it up with blankets, then vomited on the blanket.

While I was remaking the bed I spotted her in the doorway glaring at me. Apparently the Empress, was not pleased with my changes.

I believe this her form of a "horse head in the bed."
She got me back for this right after the flash went off.
