The main reason I make “What I Wore“ posts, is to get more comfortable being on the other side of the camera. The pictures are meant to be fun, and sort of silly.
Today I am just not up to it today.
I am battling the winter blahs… so doing my hair, makeup etc. is just a bit more than I can manage today.
So, please enjoy this picture of me as kid.
I had to sleep in sponge rollers the night before. Soooo “comfy“. Ha!
*My hair in the picture made me think of the little girl from Curly Sue. : )
♦Pintester tries out things from Pinterest...and makes a mess of things...in a fun way. Her test of strawberries and cream mug cake had me in tears laughing! (Caution, she swears a bit.)
♦A young woman's account of being stalked.(Get help, don’t keep it to yourself!)
♦Gala Darling wrote an extensive piece about cutting and self harm. She talks about her battle with cutting, and proves that you can make it out of the darkness. (Please read with caution, this may trigger some folks.)
The mind is a funny thing. You can have all of these memories buried and not be aware of them, until something triggers one.
I was at a local garden center with Rasputin, shopping for perennials. (My Mom had generously given us a gift certificate. Thanks mom!!!)
As I walked by some bleeding hearts, and fuchsias…I had an overwhelming sense of sadness and longing come over me. I was remembering the gardens of my family.
*****
Gramma T had a artfully arranged rock garden behind her garage. There were a few bleeding hearts tucked in-between the rocks.
My aunt Gia was a huge part of my early life. She taught me grammar, spelling*, flower arranging**, elements of art/creativity, and that animals have rights and deserve respect. (She was pretty damn cool.)
Every year she bought the largest fuchsia basket she could find. She would hang it from her deck, right above the front door. She told me that she loved the shapes of the flowers, and that they reminded her of ballerinas.

Raspi, and I decided on starting a succulents garden behind our kitchen. (I really wanted to pick up a yucca but the planting area is only 3 inches deep then it hits cement. Yucca was a no-go.)
We also picked up 2 ferns, and a bleeding heart for the shady side of our house.
*Don't blame Gia for my poor spelling, she tried very hard...but I am still dependent on spell-check!
**Arranging, and arraigning look way too similar! Imagine sending flowers to court! Ha ha ha!!!
@#$@#%#$%!!! I keep trying to fix the list of flowers, but it keeps moving the lily of the valley. Grrrr! Dang you Blogger and your weird formatting errors!!!!!!
Thanks to Better Homes and Garden, and Wikipedia for flower information.
Greetings! Salutations!

Have a great week, and don’t let holiday madness run you over.
When I was small, (about 4 or 5) I lived in a large apartment complex. One of those generic saltine box places. The overcrowded low rent places that are everywhere.
There were lots of kids living in that building. Since there wasn’t much to do we all played out in the nearby field. It was nothing special, just an overgrown weed choked grassy field.
On the edge of the field someone had dumped out some half dead geraniums. In their new life as feral flowers they began to thrive.
I went walked over to them with a group of other kids. I reached out to pick some of the red blooms… and one of the oldest kids stopped me.
“Don’t touch those! You will get zapped” The girl said.
“What?’
“Leave them alone they will zap you.”
So for a time I was very afraid of geraniums. I though they would electrocute me. I couldn’t understand why so many people had them if they were so dangerous.
Eventually I forgot all bout this. Seeing the geraniums that my neighbors have reminded me of this.
Did you ever get convinced that’s something silly was real?
P.S. She said that so I wouldn’t pick them, I went back later and they were all picked. Whadda jerk!
